Kevin Courtney elected
Deputy General Secretary

A message from Kevin:

Thanks very much to all those who have supported me in the DGS election - I will do my very best to live up to your expectations. To those who supported other candidates or who didn't vote - I hope to be able to win your confidence and trust. I do sincerely want to be a DGS for the whole union.

I stood as a campaigner and that's the role I hope to be able to play - working to support Christine in building the union's strength.

In my first election leaflet I said that there were people with enormous talents in all our regions and both nations. I want to try, as DGS, to support those people in building the fighting capacity of our union.

We all know that the aftermath of the General Election is going to bring enormous challenges. It is absolutely clear that the work must start now to build the campaigns we need. This will mean working with other unions that want to resist attacks on our pay, pensions and conditions as well as the break up of the education system. It must also mean supporting our hard pressed activists who will be vital to our efforts.

Yours,
